Beaded Butterfly Barrettes

I wanted to make some barrettes to match her jingle and fancy outfit. I used the colors pink, yellow, blue and green. These are hand-beaded, backed with commercial tanned hide and beaded with a small border.
I love how the colors and design really POP!
Goes perfectly with her Jingle Dress!!

New Moccasins!

I finally got around to not only starting but also FINISHING some new beaded moccasins for my little girl. Since her jingle dress and fancy outfit have similar colors, it'll work for either outfit! The design is a lot different from my usual designs, but I think with the colors and everything it turned out great. These moccasins are fully beaded, and are about a toddler size 9. These are made with brain-tanned buckskin.

Navajo Sash Belt Barrettes

Recently, a friend of mine asked if I could make her newborn baby some barrettes inspired by the Navajo Sash Belt. I've never beaded this design before, so I was excited to try it out...I think they turned out really cute! The Sash Belt is a very important part of Navajo Regalia...I think making them into barrettes is a great way to incorporate it into a little girl's special outfit. These barrettes are loom-beaded with size 13 seed beads, sewn to a leather backing and then beaded with a small border. Very cute for your little Navajo girl! $15/pair

Crow Inspired Earrings...

After a recent visit to the Crow Agency in Montana, I was really inspired by Crow beadwork. Their beadwork is amazing. Here are some beaded earrings I made...These ones are about the size of a quarter...
and these ones are about the size of a 1/2 dollar...They are backed with leather and have a beaded border.

Beaded Pouches...

I've always been interested in Museum-quality reproductions of old Indian beadwork. Here are a couple of my "renditions" of Old beadwork. I used some "old" beads in colors that are hard to find to make them look a little more authentic.
This beadwork is a Sioux style...The pouch above was made out of commercial tanned hide; and the one below with more traditional Brain-tanned deer hide.

For a little friend up North...

This is a Fancy Shawl outfit I made for a little 5 year old girl in Canada. She requested hearts, butterflies and horses, and purple and pink! I think it turned out cute!I used "Special Occasion" fabrics--similar to satin, so the sheen is great. The pink and white fabrics are coated with a cute Glitter and so it's extra sparkly...Perfect for a little girl! The skirt has an elastic waist for comfort, and will also allow for some growth. The Vest/Cape combo ties in the back also allowing for extra wear as this little girl grows. Ribbon hair clips made to match...
I used a Butterfly brocade fabric for the shawl...I think it will wear well, and is not too heavy for those little arms.
All designs were applied using appliqué, and then machine-stitched in place.

Boys Grass...

Here's a Grass outfit I made for my 1 year old son. I wanted a Navajo design, as well as some Pueblo influences representing our Navajo and Tewa side...I think it turned out great:) My son loved all the attention he got in the tiny tot division of the Pow Wow:) I made it pretty simple so it would be comfortable and cool enough for him. I also made beaded moccasins to match...

The Fancy Dance...

This is a Fancy Shawl Outfit I made for my 3 year old little girl. She always wants to participate in the Pow Wows, and I thought it was finally time to make her very own Fancy outfit. The Fancy Dance is a very popular dance and is one of my favorites to watch at the Pow Wow. I was taught that this dance depicts the movements of a butterfly...so I thought a butterfly was fitting for the theme of the outfit!

The Vest/Cape ties in the back allowing for longer wear even as she grows. This outfit is mostly made out of a satin-type of fabric. I think the sheen is great for Pow wows. Her shawl has a cute glitter on it. All designs were applied using appliqué and then machine-stitched on.

Check out some of her "fancy" footwork! I'm currently working on making some Beaded Moccasins to match...

Jingle Dress & Matching accessories...

For my two year old little girl, I wanted an outfit that represented her fun, easy-going personality. My favorite color for her is pink, so naturally, her dress needed to be pink:) Price for the dress, matching leggings & handkerchief starts at $100
I made two small side-barrettes with simple southwestern designs and for the back barrette, I made a cute Butterfly design. Love it. Small barrettes start at $10/pair. Large Barrettes like this butterfly start at $20
